Vertu Boucheron 150 Crafted from Solid Gold

December 26, 2008

Luxury mobile phone maker Vertu has teamed up with French jewellery house Boucheron to create the Vertu Boucheron 150, a limited edition mobile phone built from solid gold. Prepared in celebration of Boucheron's 150th anniversary, the Vertu Boucheron 150 is crafted from individual solid gold ingots taking over 1000 man hours to cut to shape, with over 700 man hours of hand polishing followed by 500 hours of hand building. The concave sapphire crystal keypad is intricately designed with 400 points, providing the toughest of challenges for the most skilled of craftsmen. The constantly changing angled surfaces allow a cut stone appearance, inspired by the clearly faceted stones which are part of Boucheron's core craft.

The Boucheron 150 was created to reflect both brands. The Vertu V-shape morphs into random proportioned patterns and directions of the three sided surfaces creating a blend of Vertu and Boucheron elements. It gains a visual sparkle not from precious stones but instead through pure form and line achieved with precious faceted metal.

The Boucheron 150 is housed in a bespoke hand-made wooden case by Reuge, the market leading Swiss makers of artisan music boxes. The box has a custom-built brass music drum that plays the signature Vertu sandpiper ringtone upon opening.

"Using the Vertu Signature platform, but taking it away from the core design and creating a visibly stunning statement that breaks all expectations of mobile phone design, resulting in a true piece of sculpture," said Frank Nuovo, Principal Designer of Vertu.

The Vertu Boucheron 150 will cost $30,000 and be on display at the recently launched Vertu store in London starting November 19, before a showcase tour at Vertu stores in Paris, Milan and Tokyo.

Motorola Krave ZN4

December 24, 2008

Introduction Released earlier this fall, Motorola's Krave ZN4 from Verizon Wireless joins a strong crowd of competitors in the U.S. touch screen phone market. Unlike the Apple iPhone or the latest BlackBerry Storm, the Krave is no smartphone, but it offers features and design that is unique in its own right. he Krave touts not one, but two innovative touch screens, a one-of-a-kind design and superior multimedia services including live television from Verizon's VCAST Mobile TV, Rhapsody music service and the VZ Navigator GPS application. Despite being a flip phone, the Krave's transparent cover only enhances the phone's vibrant 2.8-inch TFT LCD screen underneath. Additional highlights include a 2.0-megapixel camera, MP3 music player software, 3.5mm headset jack, full QWERTY keyboard and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity.

Design

The Krave's innovative design is truly eye-catching. With two levels of touch-screen menus, this Motorola handset exudes style and technological savoir-faire. Smaller and easier to carry in a pocket than most touch screen phones, the Krave weighs 4.59 oz. and measures approximately 4.13" (H) x 2.0" (W) x 0.75" (D).

It has a touch-sensitive transparent flip cover with tactile feedback. Users can conveniently view and access commonly used features. A circular Motorola emblem that doubles as a speaker to turn the Krave into a portable music player. Opening the flip answers calls, and the speaker's opposite side reveals the earpiece.
Opened, the top of the inside screen are two buttons - one button for power and one "home" button that will return users back to the main screen. An internal microphone is located below the screen.

Both of the Krave's touch screen offer iPhone-like navigation by sliding a finger up and down the screen.

On the left side of the phone there's a covered 3.5mm headset jack, and below that are volume controls and a covered Micro-USB port for transferring data from the phone to another device. The Krave's right side bears a camera-dedicated key, covered microSD memory card slot, "voice" key for recording voice memos and sending voice-activated commands, and a screen lock that deactivates the touch screen cover, preventing users from making unintended calls and exchanges.

The Krave's rubberized back won't get sullied by smudgy fingerprints like other shiny-surfaced touch screen phones. This is a plus considering that consumers will already have two touch screens to worry about keeping clean.

Also located on the back of the phone is the 2.0-megapixel camera/camcorder lens, recessed to prevent scratching and smearing. In the phone's left-hand corner is an enclosure for a hand strap.

Watching mobile TV and viewing picture slideshows on the Krave's long 2.8-inch, 240 x 400 px touch screen is another one of this its great assets. During calls, buttons for mute, speakerphone, Bluetooth connections and ending calls appear on the screen.

The outward appearance of the Krave is one of a well-designed phone. But because the Krave's touch screen duo divides the phone's features in two places, it may take some time to learn which features are available on which screens. Another common complaint about this handset is that its transparent cover actually gets in the way of two-thumb typing on its full QWERTY keyboard.

Out of the box, the Motorola Krave ZN4 comes with a standard 950 mAh Li-Ion Battery, Power Cable and User Guide.

Sony Ericsson W890i Walkman

December 21, 2008

When the W880i was first available, it was received with mixed responses. Its ultraslim profile, solid build quality, attractive design matched with a decent feature set may have been a hit, but the phone was ultimately "killed" by its tiny keys. So when we saw the specifications of its successor, the W890i, and more importantly, the larger keys on the product stills, we knew we had to give the series a second chance.

Design
If you've used the W880i before, you would find it a pain to type with the grain-sized keys. That was one of the biggest letdowns on the W880i. Fortunately, its successor, the W890i, addresses that specific issue.
The buttons are now mini humps that provide a decent level of tactility. That said, after a quick poll with friends, we gathered two main types of responses--the first group was bowled over by the form factor (keys were a secondary issue to them); the second group thought the buttons could be better. We didn't have any issues with the keypad, on the contrary we found ourselves liking the snappy feel. Users with larger thumbs may want to try it for themselves before buying the phone, though.

The W890i checks in at 10mm thin and a featherweight 78g, which make it very attractive in terms of size. If you're worried the W890i may feel like a toy, don't. In fact, the handset has a right combination of footprint and load. Design-wise, the brushed metal gives the W890i a solid build quality and adds a nice finishing touch to the chassis. We had a Mocha Brown review unit though the phone is also available in Sparkling Silver.

Elsewhere, the W890i comes with a Walkman button on the left, and camera shutter and volume controls on the right. The connector port is found on the same side as the music key and, unless you have a pair of wireless earphones, you'll have to bear with the headset port jutting out when the phone is in your pocket.

Sony Ericsson ships the W890i with a 2GB Memory Stick Micro M2 card which is great, but getting to the flash media requires you to remove the battery cover. The latter is held in place by two manual clasps on the sides of the phone. That's an additional step, but it isn't as bad as having to restart the phone if the card is behind the Lithium-polymer cell.

Nokia 5310 XpressMusic

The thing about ultraslim phones (read: Less than 10mm thick) is that they usually come with some tradeoffs either in terms of features, functionality or in some cases, usability. However, that doesn't seem to be the issue with the 5310 XpressMusic. When we saw it showcased the first time at Nokia's GoPlay event earlier this year, it caught our attention with its slim form factor, bright colors and solid build quality. But what impressed us most was its extensive range of music features. From onboard 3.5mm audio jack and Bluetooth stereo to a memory expansion card slot and dedicated music playback buttons, you'd be hard-pressed to find a music-phone as slim and feature-packed as the 5310 XpressMusic.

Design
There's something about the 5310 that makes you want to pick it up to use. It may not be the most attractive-looking or the thinnest handset you can find in the market today. But the combination of a 9.9mm-slim profile, bright color lines (red or blue) and a rather simple yet trendy design somehow makes the phone likeable for most people on first impressions. It also helps that once you pick it up, it's got comfortable and solid feel.

Even though the exterior casing is predominantly plastic, there are no creaky parts or plasticky-feeling keys on the phone. In fact, most of the buttons are responsive except for the "+" side of the volume toggle on the left edge. Those with larger digits may also take a while to get used to the five-way navigation key. We found the dedicated music buttons on the left panel of the screen very convenient for quick access to song playback.

Many thin phones these days use a single port for charging, headset and data transfer. This usually means you cannot do more than one task at anytime. The 5310, however, comes with three individual ports onboard for each of the functions, including one for data transfer via microUSB. We were pleasantly surprised to find a port for a 3.5mm audio jack, especially on a sub-10mm slim phone. This must surely be one feature that will win the hearts of music junkies who like the freedom of using their own earphones.

On the back of the handset, you can find the 2-megapixel camera and two tiny speaker slits. The camera lens juts out slightly, so extra care will have to be taken to avoid scratches and cracks. There are no LED lights or self-portrait mirrors, so it's a pretty basic feature-set for the camera.

The microSD card slot is located under the battery cover. This means you have to remove the battery cover in order to access the card. Fortunately, the slot itself is located beside the SIM card slot and not underneath the battery, so there is no need to remove the battery as well.

Nokia E71

The first thing you on the E71, as is the size of the battery. It really is very well contained, so that the phone is always easy to hold and navigate. What the large battery, but is an excellent battery life, even with the 3G connectivity and surfing the internet finds something that most still with the phones . There is also a very comfortable keyboard using the grooves, where the numbers. For navigation, there are now four buttons, the most important in your home screen, calendar, contacts or e-mail address and navigation in general is an important part of the navigation system, including a pulse of light on the basis of some messages . I would also like to mention that the operating system has a lot of car and implementation of integrated error correction in pieces, making it very easy to navigate by using the E71 with only one hand. In relation to the appearance, which can be seen in the images is very polite. Originally, the company has cried to me, but when I started to play immediately consumer Recalling his vocation.

Features
The Nokia E71 has functions. To begin, you can call, but if you are in fact not from your home screen. Instead, a window on the screen and shows that during a call. These kinds of innovations are with the E71 and enter the phone using a Web 2.0 and Exchange feel.Mail
There are in the Mail ", which unfortunately is not an auto-complete their contacts. Do not work well with the Exchange server, but can be caused by the installation of e-mail a request for the exchange. Speaking of what is one of the best that I've seen the applications to Exchange. After installing the application available and the necessary adjustments to my calendar, contacts, e-mail and streaming customs duties are particularly good for me the timetable for implementation, especially the E71, especially as it automatically creates a false entry in the calendar for the day, showing how most tasks that need to be filled. With a click on the item opens the tasks for the application is pretty good.
And music playback Podcast
I do not think that this is a big fan of podcasts until I start to play with the E71. Of course invite a bunch of podcasts on a regular basis in my iPhone, but the E71, you can subscribe to podcasts and download directly, without the device attached. Since I tend not to work because my iPhone, I'll do it in the air synchronization exchange rates, the ability to cull, Podcasts, the freedom led me to some podcasts to hear during the broadcast and receive e-mails. I also have a video podcast downloaded and simultaneously taking note of this examination. When the download is completed on built-in RealPlayer required.I non-intervention was also surprised by how strong he is on the E71. It is one of the first devices that are not successful maximizing the volume while playing to the podcast right, in fact, I had to hear almost half of the volume.

The test of Gmail
One of the most important tests I always do it in a new mobile phone is capable of sending and receiving of Gmail. The E71 is known for Gmail, and a Java client is downloaded. It really is the best application that I have seen, and I found myself wish that the E71 only for the functionality itself. Honestly, I did not know that Gmail to function smoothly on a cell phone and I are very happy to see what is offered Android, because it will be very closely with all the offerings from Google.
Office help of the voice and much more
The Nokia E71 is included with the versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint May and also a bridge Powerpoint directly from your phone if you want. It also contains an application called voice, with the loud read almost everything you see on the screen to you. There is also a bar code reader, the application, but I could not read barcodes everything in my test, and, of course, a camera, GPS and Web browser. The browser itself is remarkable, because it provides Google iPhone user-friendly pages exactly as it appears on the iPhone. It is a positive development of the iPhone can, around the sides of good friends up and down the keys, instead of a touchscreen.

One thing that usually do not comment about a cell phone ring tones, but the combination of the high volume of the speaker and ringtones crumbs forced me to comment. You can also use video ringtones, plays a video where a call into play
Multitasking

I said, as he has been able to make further tasks for downloading and listening to podcasts. This multitasking is across the phone. It was also impressed with how he quickly from one application to another quickly and as a request for release.
In short, there are very few things I do not like the E71. It is undoubtedly one of the most powerful smartphones I did, and as soon as you're accustomed to Series 60 navigation on the device (it took me about an hour), it is easy to personalize and almost everything to find what you are looking for. I could easily see the E71 as a substitute almost any phone, which tend to carry.

Learn more about the E71 or the purchase of the U.S. version for $ 483 in Nokia.com released.

Nokia N96

Feature:
Looks-wise, the N96 isn't a radical departure from previous designs. The handset still has quite a bulky frame, but instead of the matte finish, it comes with an altogether more stylish-looking high-gloss exterior. The slide mechanism has also been tweaked and now feels much smoother and sturdier, but the unique dual keypad arrangement has been retained. If you slide the screen upwards you're met by the standard numerical keypad, but when you slide it downwards a column of four media playback controls (play, stop, fast-forward and rewind) are revealed. Nokia has paid close attention to video with the N96. In order to add support for the DVB-H standard (more on that later) Nokia has had to kit the phone out with new video acceleration. This speeds up decoding of video formats like H.264, the most common standard for video on mobiles.

The advantages this brings are clear when you download the iPlayer application from the BBC's Web site. It works like a dream--the streamed video looks incredibly smooth and artefact-free on the N96's excellent screen. Nokia has even added a kick-stand to the rear of the phone so you can easily rest it on a desk when you want to watch a few episodes of your favourite programmes or a couple of music videos.

Up until now, the N81 was the king of the N-Gage gaming handsets. But that's all changed with the N96's arrival--sliding down the screen when an N-Gage game is loaded transforms the media controls into additional gaming buttons for two-handed control. It helps game-playing immensely and makes the phone feel like a real portable games machine.
The camera is pretty much a direct carry-over from the N95, but as it takes such good shots that's no bad thing. The five-megapixel sensor captures plenty of detail and the Carl Zeiss optics make sure that everything remains pin sharp. Although there's still no Xenon flash, you do get dual LED photo lights to help in dim conditions.

As ever, connectivity is absolutely top notch. As well as support for HSDPA, the phone has onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth complete with A2DP support, so you can stream stereo audio to a pair of wireless headphones. Naturally the A-GPS features have also been carried over from the N95, and you get three months of free subscription to the Nokia Maps 2.0 service for satellite navigation.

A phone with such a rich line-up of features will require plenty of memory to make the most of it. Thankfully, Nokia has taken this on board and instead of the 8GB of memory offered on the premium version of the N95, the N96 doubles this to a massive 16GB. If this isn't enough, you can always add extra storage via the microSD card slot found on the right-hand side of the phone.

LG KC550 Orsay Best Camera Phone

The LG KC550 (also known as LG Orsay) is probably the best camera phone, which you have never heard of. KC550 the court can not be conceived as a shortened version of Viewty.
The specifications KC550 has only a GSM phone with a 2.4-inch 240 x 320 pixels Display, an FM radio, microSD memory scalable and integrated acceleration sensor. There is a TV output and video clips, photos and images can be viewed on a TV.

The interesting part is the KC550 of the camera. It is a 5 mega-pixels with a unit “Schneider-Kreuznach Objektiv-certified”. We are not sure what that means certification in this regard, but under the name verputzten on the back of the phone, it is necessary to ensure the quality of optical KC550. The camera has autofocus and what is manifest in a LED flash. The ceiling video capture, resolution 720 x 480 pixels at 30 frames per second, so it is without doubt one of the best laptops on the market for video-recording.

The acceleration of the blade can be used on the screen, flip-alignment portrait (tall) landscape (wide) the methods that you turn the handset, and can also be used for games although we believe it is of limited usefulness. Unlike Viewty, LG has KC550 a standard screen and the touch screen is absent.

It is a protective cover on the back of the phone, to hide, if the goal is not used, and the device also has an image stabilizer and lichtschwachen capabilities.

Of course, it would be beautiful, a touch screen, and the lack of 3G is a little surprising, but then the KC550 is less expensive than Viewty and is ideal for people who want high-quality images, but they are quite happy with a standard GSM phone.
